Well, I went to the Long Beach show today to pick up my 2 auctions that I won, they are beautiful!!!
Anyways, picked them up and decided to do a quick...look see..... around the bourse floor. Since
I came late most were packed up or in the middle of packing up.
On my way out I stumbled across this token. I have been wanting one for years but the last one that sold
went for a little over $4k.....

It is also in the book of the "100 Greatest American Medals and Tokens" as seen below.
In there they discuss the brass ones but don't mention the silver ones and this is silver.
Defaced though, but still very COOL!!
I have to do some more research as to how many silver ones where made
Here are a few links to other Merchant cards that have the same obverse, but different reverses
One Link......

J.N.T. Levick is one of the most famous of all late 19th and early 20th century coin collectors and dealers.
Born in 1828, he became a broker in government securities and banking and amassed a fortune.
He soon became interested in rare coins and especially tokens, and was instrumental in the
foundation of the American Numismatic Association and the American Numismatic Society.
He loved his tokens and had a series of his own struck by George H. Lovett.
He was one of the earliest serious collectors of Hard Times tokens and his 1870 catalogue
of 56 types served as the basis for Low's later analysis of the series.
He died in 1908, a lifelong smoker.

Gotta love the Token and next to that you gotta wonder who did the after market artwork.
I get visions of scary eyes rolling around in a scary head

Very interesting coin/medal/. I like it a lot. Like I said before, I never though a coin or anything like that was allowed to be made. I wish it was my picture on t with a blunt...lol

Thanks. : )

I have collected U.S coins for many years, and then Civil War Tokens, but am now actively building a collection of Conder Tokens,
the coins that made the Industrial Revolution a whopping success. : )

Definitly not something you would see made today! Cool find, though...I was not aware of their being issued in Silver, it's a shame somebody decided to use it for a cutting board...

PARTY! PARTY! PARTY! lol> Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. Seriously though, that's quite a unique medal/token, and as the others who have posted before me said, I doubt you would see something like this being made today. Thanks for sharing.
