1876 International Exhibition Award Medal

Here is one you won't see too often. It was designed by F. N. Mitchell for the centennial celebration held in Philadelphia. It was struck in copper, is 68mm in diameter, almost 10mm thick and weighs a whopping 9.3oz. It isn't often that you see a medal of this size that is struck rather than cast because the detail isn't usually that good.
This is another one I got at FUN 2006. I was standing about 5-6' away from a dealer's case when I spotted it. The case was full of medals, but there was a couple standing in front of it chatting with the dealer. I was worried that they might ask to look at it, so I edged closer and craned my neck as if to look at something on the far side of the case. I finally got the couple "maneuvered" to the right enough so that I was in front of the medal. I asked to look at it. He pulled it out. I asked, "How much?" He said, "$165". SOLD!
