Stacks Americana show......anyone buy anything????
« on: January 28, 2010, 11:58:36 AM »
I was lucky to win three auctions

Illustrious Predecessor. 1837. HT-34, Low-20. Copper. Rarity-1. MS-64 RB

Ohio. Cincinnati. Dodd & Co. Hatters. (Ca. 1851). Miller Ohio 9. Copper. MS-65.

This one Is very common but will explain when its in my hands ;D

New York, New York. 1861 John K. Curtis. Watchmaker. F-630S-1a1. Fuld Rarity-Unlisted. MS-64 RB (NGC).

Auction states it as unlisted but can be found in the token book
and is Miller NY 172....unless I am missing something :)

I will take my own images and post them here to compare the likeness and explain the Miller Ohio 9.

Nice wins Stefanie, love all 3!!! And (despite being very common) I love Dodd & Co. Hatters merchant token. The Liberty looks so much like the one from California/San Francisco private gold pieces from this era (year - 1851, Schultz, Dunbar, Wass-Molitor & Co.)

Thanks.

Regarding the DODD token, you are very right that it's very common.
But.......when I get it in hand I will show you the reason I bought it Happy(*)

I picked up a 1805 Quarter B-1.  I will take pictures once it is in hand.

Well, my Stacks coins appeared in the mail today and...................

Most, by now have seen my DODD Merchant card.

It is a "D" over "O"  info is below.

Well, last year I found a copper one in xf condition and showed it to NGC and they said
that these do not exist in copper only brass and silvered brass.

I think because there was not enough "meat" left on that one NGC dismissed it :(

Well, browsing through the last Stacks auction I saw it........plain as day, well just bite in the butt!!!!!................yes, I am excited Happy(*)

A copper D/O which is unlisted.......doesn't exist ;)

It appears to me to be even a stronger example than the brass one

I am bringing this one with me to the LB show and see what they have to say now:3dancingsmiley;

DODD & Co Hatters M Ohio 10F Ms63.....brass

DODD & Co Hatters M Ohio 10 copper unlisted....unlisted
