No forum is complete without a place to discuss the darkside, so I'll start it off.
My specialties are Japanese coinage of the Meiji through Showa eras (1867-1989), and the various Chinese, Korean and other coinages under Japanese occupation or control, but I define "every country" in the term OFEC (One From Every Country) in the broadest possible terms to cover each monetary regime, colonial status, etc., so I have an extensive collection from every continent.
As this sub-forum is entitled "Numismatic Resources" here is a link to the most comprehensive site I know of regarding Japanese coinage, especially dating them.
http://www.lioncoins.com/nippon.htm
The same number characters are used for dating both Japanese and Chinese coins (beginning with the foundation of the Republic), so some key dates to keep in mind when attributing Japanese or Chinese coins are:
1868, beginning of the Meiji Era in Japan. Add 1867 to the date of a Meiji coin to obtain the western (AD/CE) year.
1912, beginning of the Taisho Era in Japan, and founding of the Republic of China. Add 1911 to the date on a Taisho or Chinese coin for the Western year.)
1926, beginning of the Showa Era in Japan. Add 1925 to the date of a Showa coin for the Western year.
1989, beginning of the current Heisei Era in Japan. Add 1988 to the date of a Heisei coin for the Western year.

Thanks for posting the link. I recently purchased a nice gem BU 10 sen 1917. I collect by birthyear dates of family members and although the coin was stated to be a 1917, not be able to read the characters, I was not positive that it actually a 1917. The link does indeed confirm that the seller had the date correct.

I remember you from over on Coin Talk mentioning about Japanese coins.
I'm still busy collecting these days, despite my ill-health.
